Regal Cinemas hits Lynchburg

River Ridge Mall held the Grand Opening of the new Regal Cinemas Theater, River Ridge Stadium 14, on Oct. 9.

“The addition of Regal Cinemas is fantastic for both River Ridge Mall and the community of Lynchburg,” General Manager of River Ridge Mall Denise Dudley said in a press release. “We are constantly looking for ways to enhance the overall shopping experience. By adding this entertainment component at River Ridge Mall, we are able to meet yet another need of our guests.”

In a press release from Business Wire, Regal Entertainment Group Senior Vice President of Marketing and Advertising Dick Westerling said he thinks that the new theater will be a great addition for not only Lynchburg but the mall as well.

“River Ridge Stadium 14 will be a state-of-the art entertainment destination for Lynchburg-area moviegoers,” Westerling said. “River Ridge Mall is certainly a popular location and the new Regal Cinemas will be a terrific addition to the regional shopping center.”

The 57,000-square-foot-theater is equipped with the latest technology, according to bigscreen.com. The theatre contains 14 screens and has 2,400 seats with stadium seating. The theater is also equipped with RealD 3-D technology.

“The technology gives moviegoers a stunningly realistic movie experience that engages the imagination, activates the senses and invites the audience not only to watch a film, but also step inside the story,” according to bigscreen.com.

Upcoming 3-D movies, A Christmas Carol and Avatar are scheduled to show in upcoming months.

Lynchburg College students seem to be excited about this addition to the Lynchburg community.

“I think it’s a big improvement,” freshman Christopher Peter said. “The mall was missing a nice theater and now it has one. I’ll definitely check it out sooner or later.”

Sophomore Melissa Monaco said she thinks this theater is a positive addition.

“Last year, I’d always go to the dollar theatre or Carmike Cinemas to see a movie,” Monaco said. “Now with the new theater, I have more incentive to go to the mall.”

The theater is now showing all of the newest releases to date.

For a limited time, students and the general public were able to enjoy $1 movies, like Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and District 9, and $1 popcorn. The theater also put on multiple community events, including a performance from country singer Emma Jacob. Profits from the events went to a charity of Regal’s choice.
