Both the Lynchburg College field hockey and women's soccer teams defeated the respective teams from Eastern Mennonite University 3-0 this past weekend.
For the field hockey team, the win over EMU was their last in-conference game of the regular season. The team finished ODAC play 7-0 this season and clinched home field advantage for the entire ODAC Tournament that begins on Nov. 2, according to the LC Athletics website. Freshman Lindsay Leonard led the scoring attack for LC with two goals in the first half. The third goal of the game came from senior Allie Weir and was her 28th goal of the season.
Weir currently leads all of Division III with 1.73 goals per game and 4.13 points per game, according to the ODAC website. Weir's sister, junior Jenny Weir, is also high in the national statistical ranks as she is currently fourth in assists per game with .80. Also sitting high in the national statistics is junior Jordan Warrington who is tied for 10th in goals per game with 1.20 and tied for 12th in points per game with 2.87. LC as a team is also high statistically in many categories, leading the nation in assists per game with 3.80 and currently sitting second in goals per game (5.60), points per game (15.00) and scoring average (5.48), according to the ODAC website.
The women's soccer team pushed their record to 12-2-3 overall and 8-1-1 in the ODAC. The 3-0 victory over EMU last Saturday was fueled by LC sophomore, Brittany Klippstein, who posted a hat trick in the game, scoring all three of LC's goals. Klippstein said that she was really excited about scoring the hat trick and she expects the team to go even further in the post season than they did last year.
"I think all the finishing we do in practice is finally paying off for me. The team took longer to get in sync this year than last, but I think we'll definitely go further than we did before. We have a new formation and it's working really well so if we play to our potential we should be ODAC champs again and be on our way to Texas for the Final Four at the end of November," Klippstein said in an e-mail.
The 3-0 win was the women's soccer team's 12th shutout of the season and their sixth consecutive shutout, as the team has not allowed a goal since Oct. 7 in a 4-1 win over Roanoke College, according to the ODAC website.
